When I’m in Hanoi I love Vietnamese food but sometimes need a break, Il faro was the best Italian food ever. We went there on our last night before leaving for Saigon. It’s located in a colonial villa, with a beautiful dining salon, but we chose to sit outside in the garden courtyard which was lit with lanterns from the fruit trees. I ordered taglietelle con molecche e gamberi, fresh egg pasta with soft crab and prawns, it was delicious and my girlfriend had petto d’anatra con cavolfiore e broccoli brasati, duck breast with braised baby cauliflowers and broccoli, We met the Italian chef Nicola and all their pasta is fresh made in house, as is their bread and pizza. We also had a caprese with their freshly made buffalo mozzarella which was first class. The staff are very attentive as was the owners Italian nephew in making sure we were comfortable. A nice slice of Italy with a relaxed and warm atmosphere. The wines are extensive but I’m not much of a wine buff, we had a bottle of Chianti which was great and finished up with espresso coffee and grappa.
